چکیده
1982, 1987, and 1997. (3) The clustering characteristics of the obtained climate networks qualitatively agree with the spatial distribution of connected regions with simultaneous events (i.e., events that occur at the same time), but provide a more detailed view on the spatial organization of strong atmospheric upwelling events. Interestingly, no comparable results are found for negative extremes of moisture divergence (strong precipitation events).

South American rainfall impacts associated with inter-El Niño variations
[1] The impacts of inter-El Niño events on South American circulation during austral summer are investigated using observations and an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM). The AGCM was forced with sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the tropical Pacific for the two El Niño events of 1997/1998 (EN97) and 2002/2003 (EN02). The strong eastern Pacific SST anomaly of EN97 resulted in...
متن کاملEl Niño–Southern Oscillation and Pacific Decadal Oscillation impacts on precipitation in the southern and central United States: Evaluation of spatial distribution and predictions
[1] Understanding and predicting regional impacts of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) on winter (October–March) precipitation can provide valuable inputs to agricultural and water resources managers. Effects of ENSO and PDO on winter precipitation were assessed in 165 climate divisions throughout the southern United States. A continuous region of signifi...
متن کاملMultiscale streamflow variability associated with El Niño/ Southern Oscillation
Streamflow responses to the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon in the tropical Pacific are detectable in many regions. During warm-tropical El Niño and cool-tropical La Niña episodes, streamflows are affected throughout the Americas and Australia, in northern Europe, and in parts of Africa and Asia. In North and South America, correlations between peakflow season streamflows and sea...
متن کاملEl Niño - Southern Oscillation
El Niño (The Christ Child) is named for the unusual warm current of water flowing south near the coast of Peru whose onset is often felt near Christmas. This mostly regular event has a great effect on the Peruvian anchovy industry, at one time, one of the most productive fisheries in the world. When cold-water upwelling stops reducing the amount of nutrients in the surface waters off the South ...
